Hybrid range availability

The gas-powered 2027 Nissan Rogue gets one change Nissan describes: its engineers further enhanced the performance of the Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission. The larger headline for 2027 is the all-new Rogue Hybrid.

So the 2027 story has two parts. If you were already eyeing a Rogue, the familiar recipe carries on with refined transmission behavior. If you have been waiting for a hybrid version, that is the one to study.

What changed

What actually changed on the gas Rogue for 2027?

Nissan's announcement for the 2027 Rogue focuses on the transmission. Engineers went back to the Xtronic CVT and further enhanced its performance for this model year. The new tuning delivers a smoother, more linear acceleration profile, with crisper throttle response. Nissan has not announced any other feature or color changes compared with 2026.

The engine itself is the Variable Compression Turbo, or VC-Turbo. Nissan rates it at 201 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 225 lb-ft of torque from 2,800 to 4,000 rpm. Around Edmonds, where the streets climb steeply away from the waterfront, that mid-range torque is what you feel when you pull up a hill from a stop, and it is the right place to judge the retuned transmission on a test drive.

How is the 2027 Rogue Hybrid different?

Everything in this section applies only to the all-new Rogue Hybrid. Every Rogue Hybrid comes with dual-motor electric all-wheel drive as standard, so there is no front-drive version to choose around.

The rollout is staged. The Hybrid first launches as the all-wheel-drive SR with the SR Technology Package, and Nissan says the full range of SV, SR and Platinum will be available in early 2027.

For drivers who want all-wheel drive without adding an option, that standard electric AWD is the detail worth weighing against the gas Rogue's front-drive starting point.

The lineup

Which grades does the gas Rogue offer?

The 2027 Rogue comes in S, SV, Rock Creek, Dark Armor and Platinum grades, with standard front-wheel drive and available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. Each grade has a distinct personality:

  • Rock Creek adds Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires, Hill Descent Control and a unique front fascia.
  • Dark Armor brings black 19-inch wheels and gloss black exterior trim.
  • Platinum moves up from the 8-inch color display used on S, SV, Dark Armor and Rock Creek to a 12.3-inch HD color display.

Dual 12.3-inch screens with Google built-in are also available. Platinum also has the most cargo room behind the second row, covered below.

Gas Rogue fuel economy by drivetrain

Here are the EPA-estimated fuel economy figures for the 2027 gas Rogue:

  • S and SV with front-wheel drive: up to 28 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined.
  • S, SV, Dark Armor and Platinum with AWD: 27 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined.
  • Rock Creek with AWD: 26 mpg city, 31 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined.

AWD and drive modes

Available Intelligent AWD includes five drive modes: Standard, Eco, Sport, Off-Road and Snow. That Snow setting earns its place in this part of Washington, especially on winter drives over the mountain passes.

Cabin space and driver assistance

The Rogue seats five, and the second row is a reclining 60/40 split bench for three, with second-row A/C vents. Cargo space is 31.6 cubic feet behind the second row on S, SV, Dark Armor and Rock Creek. On Platinum, the Divide-N-Hide system in its low position opens up 36.5 cubic feet, and folding the second row gives you 74.1 cubic feet.

For highway cruising, ProPILOT Assist is available and provides steering assistance that helps make highway driving more convenient.

Decision guide

Which 2027 Rogue fits the way you drive?

A front-drive S or SV for the daily commute

If your miles are mostly errands and freeway commuting, the front-drive S and SV carry the best EPA estimates in the gas lineup, at up to 30 mpg combined. Take one over your usual route to feel the retuned CVT where it counts.

Rock Creek for mountain weekends

For weekend trips toward Cascade trailheads, Rock Creek is the natural starting point because of its all-terrain tires and Hill Descent Control. Plan a test drive that includes a steep Edmonds hill to get a feel for it.

The Rogue Hybrid if you want electric AWD on every version

Dual-motor electric all-wheel drive is standard on every Rogue Hybrid, and the first ones arrive as the SR with the SR Technology Package. Nissan says the SV and Platinum Hybrid grades arrive in early 2027.
